Archduchess Auguste Ferdinande of Austria, Princess of Bavaria was born on 1 April 1825, in Florence. She was the daughter of Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and his first wife Maria Anna of Saxony. She is believed to be tall, gracious and self-conscious lady who had great interest in the arts as well as sciences from early childhhod.

In 1844 she married Luitpold, son of Ludwig I of Bavaria, in Florence. Ludwig I of Bavaria tried to stop their marriage as Auguste had already developed symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis. In spite they got married and had four children- Ludwig III, Leopold, Therese and Arnulf. She was great support of her husband throughout his political life and in 1848 Revolution she opinioned against Lola Montez. She finally died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 39 in 1864 and buried in the crypt of the Theatinerkirche.
