Jane Elizabeth Digby, an English aristocrat, was born on 3 April 1807 in Forston House, near Minterne Magna, Dorset. She lived a very scandalous life throughout her life; she was married for four times Edward Law, Baron Venningen, Spyridon Theotokis and last Abdul Midjuel el Mezrab with whom she lived for 28 years until she died of fever and dysentery in Damascus on 11 August 1881. She took the name Jane Elizabeth Digby el Mezrab after marrying him under Muslim law. She also had several lovers including King Ludwig I of Bavaria, his son King Otto of Greece, an Albanian brigand general, an Austrian statesman Felix Schwarzenberg, and her with her cousin, George Anson.

She is known to be equally adept at eight languages. She has been described as considerably tall with a wonderful figure, a lovely face, pale-gold hair and dark blue eyes with long dark lashes. She had one son, Arthur Dudley, who died after few weeks of his birth and a daughter, named Mathilde.
