Recanati Annunciation

Artist: Italian Renaissance painter Lorenzo Lotto
Year: c. 1534

The Recanati Annunciation is an oil painting painted around 1534 by the Italian painter Lorenzo Lotto. Today, the painting is in the Civic Museum of Villa Colloredo Mels, Recanati, Italy.
The painting probably illustrates a bedroom where an Annunciation takes place by showing the angel at the right side of Mary. Angel is holding a white lily in one hand and right hand is up that is pointing at the father God, who is visible from a loggia which opens to a garden, is up above the cloud and blessing Mary from inside the loggia. Mary is portrayed in the left forefront and staring at the viewers by lifting her hands in an astounded gesture.

The painting has a Northern European influence and expressive gesture of Mary shows the influence of Italian painter Titian’s painting style.
