The San Giacomo dell’Orio Altarpiece is an oil painting completed by Lorenzo Lotto, the Italian Renaissance artist, dating from 1546. The painting has been placed in the church of San Giacomo dell’Orio in Venice. The painting was Lotto’s one of the last works in Venice from here he moved to the Marche.
According to the inscription, the painting was commissioned by brotherhood in Venice. In the painting, Madonna is sitting on a high throne with holy child in front of a green drapery, she is surrounded by a group of saints, Cosmas and Damian, and James, son of Zebedee and Andrew the Apostle, down looking up to them and angels, wearing white cloths are up with the crown on their hands in posting of crowning to Mary. It is a distinctive Holy conversation composition.
