Artist: The Pre-Raphaelite artist James Collinson
The Holy Family is an oil painting of the Holy Family finished in 1878 by the Pre-Raphaelite artist James Collinson while living in Brittany. In the painting, Jesus has been shown as an infant with his parents Joseph and Mary. The dove on the hand of Joseph represents the Holy Spirit, who is believed to have taken the form at the baptism of Jesus. The town in the painting background might be Saint-Malo.
The detailed interpretation of the increasing flora around them is different from his other works from the same period and is quite similar to Collinson’s early Pre-Raphaelite work.
